Sixers face challenge with Kelly Oubre Jr.’s hospitalization after pedestrian accident amidst winning streak

The Sixers signed Kelly Oubre Jr for a minimum deal in September, a low risk and high reward situation. Oubre is an athletic wing who has the skills to produce on both ends of the floor.

Given his repertoire, Kelly Oubre is a good fit for the Sixers. He has shown that he has several skills, the best of them being his ability to finish in transition consistently. He was playing well in the absence of James Harden and PJ Tucker but unfortunately has been hospitalized as he met with an accident.

Kelly Oubre Jr. expected to miss significant time due to injuries

As per ESPN’S Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers wing Kelly Oubre Jr suffered injuries after being struck by a car while walking near his home in Philadelphia. According to Wojnarowski, Oubre, 27, was brought to a nearby hospital and is in a stable condition.

Oubre is at the hospital with a group of team personnel, including Sixers president Daryl Morey. It is thought that he sustained severe injuries, which will require “significant” time away from the team. His injuries aren’t anticipated to be season ending though.

According to a police report from Philadelphia, Oubre was hit by a car as he was crossing Broad and Locust Street. On Saturday, the incident happened around 7 p.m. ET. Apparently, Oubre walked to Spruce and Hicks streets after the collision, where he was discovered by emergency personnel. Shortly after, he was brought to the neighboring Jefferson Hospital to receive medical attention for his wounds. His condition is now stable.

Police told reporters that a silver car left the scene soon after the collision, and the local authorities are looking into the incident. The alleged hit-and-run is still underway investigation.

With an average of 16.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from three, Oubre has been enjoying the best season of his nine-year career at Philadelphia.

Sixers secure 7th consecutive victory

The Sixers seem to have got better after they let James Harden go. They recently defeated the Detroit Pistons to bag their seventh consecutive victory.

Joel Embiid played a pivotal role in securing the victory by scoring 33 points and had 16 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey had 29 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers for the 76ers, undefeated since an opening loss at Milwaukee. Tobias Harris had 24 points.

Killian Hayes led the Pistons with 23 points and Cade Cunningham added 21 but their efforts went in vain as the 76ers handed them their 7th defeat of the season. The 76ers are currently occupying the first place in the Eastern Conference standings and have only lost one game so far winning their seventh on the trot.
