Only yesterday, Khabib Nurmagomedov published his picks for the top 15 mixed martial arts fighters in history. If you’re wondering whether Conor McGregor, Khabib’s sworn enemy, is on the list, the answer is no.
Although Khabib and McGregor’s illustrious match at UFC 229 took place five years ago, MMA fans continue to discuss their fierce rivalry. There is no way to deny how intense Khabib and McGregor’s animosity was, and fans of mixed martial arts loved every minute of it.
It should therefore come as no great surprise that the Irishman was left off of the Russian fighter’s list of the greatest MMA fighters. The Notorious, in fact, hasn’t fully moved on from Khabib’s loss; many think it marked the beginning of Conor’s fall from grace in the MMA world, and the ghost of the Russian still looms large over the Irish fighter.
Who are on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s list of the greatest fighters in MMA history?
Khabib made the decision to stop serving as an MMA coach and promoter earlier this year. The undefeated fighter continues to offer his ideas, predictions, and perspective on MMA, though. When the retired Dagestani fighter released his GOAT list yesterday, he literally broke Twitter.
Khabib’s list featured a number of prominent MMA fighters. The former lightweight champion took a riskier approach when creating the list than most MMA athletes, who often prefer to play it safe. The list had the ideal balance of active and retired MMA fighters.
Jon Jones, Henry Cejudo, Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, and Stipe Miocic are among the current fighters who made Khabib’s list. However, Nurmagomedov has once again displayed his humility by keeping him off the list.
