“There’s fighters that deserve more than Jake” Eddie Hearn disapproves WBC’ decision on Jake Paul for his Tommy Fury clash

Eddie Hearn expressed his disagreement with a statement made by the World Boxing Council (WBC) prior to the bout between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, which stated that the organization will rank Jake Paul if he prevails.

There is now less than a week until the much-anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, which has been in the works for two years. The fight between had been scheduled on two separate occasions, but both were postponed at the last minute. Despite all the noise and drama, they’ll finally face each other in the ring in Riyadh on February 26.

The WBC has made the announcement that The Problem Child will be ranked as a cruiserweight boxer by the organization. This definitely comes as an encouraging news for Jake just ahead of the bout. WBC provided Sky Sports with additional information regarding Jake Paul.

According to WBC, the reasons why they are considering Jake to be ranked are because Jake has dedication and respect to the sport and the WBC does not tolerate discrimination against anyone. WBC believes Jake deserves the opportunities that any other boxer has as  he demonstrated punching power and improved skills as well as a solid chin and Tommy Fury represents a clear challenge to Paul in a battle of two undefeated professional boxers.

“Jake Paul has been close to the WBC for several years, starting with the first event promoted in the UK when his brother, Logan, fought KSI. On that night Jake won the WBC amateur belt in the undercard fights,” the WBC said to Sky Sports.

Jake Paul entered the boxing scene as a pro in the year 2020. Six fights later, he still hasn’t suffered a defeat. “The Problem Child” is well-known because of his undefeated record and his recent victory over veteran Brazilian MMA fighter Anderson Silva.

However, British sports promoter Eddie Hearn does not fully agree with Jake being given the opportunity to be ranked by WBC. According to the Matchroom Sport chairman, it is commercial decision as everyone in the WBC governing body knows about Jake’s influence and what he is capable of bringing in this industry.

“Look, Tommy Fury’s a proper fighter and Jake Paul would make a statement if he won that fight. Not a statement that he can challenge for a world title, but, ultimately, there’s a little bit of publicity in there. Is it right? Not really. Because there’s fighters that deserve to be in the top 15 much more than Jake Paul, but it’s the world we live in.” Hearn said in an interview to PFL TV.

Whether or not Jake gets the chance to be ranked by WBC remains to be seen, but for the time being, Jake is focused on putting an end to his over two-year-long internet feud with Tommy Fury on February 26 in Riyadh.
