‘I’ll be the selfish guy’ New York Jets WR Elijah Moore requests trade, A.J. Brown shows supports: ‘#FreeElijah’

Elijah Moore showed a great deal of potential as a rookie, but the wide receiver couldn’t perform his best this season due to the lack of involvement which made him upset with the team. He has just 16 receptions for 203 yards so far this season as it was his second with the team. The New York Jets star had a team-high 538 yards and five touchdowns, along with 54 rushing yards and another touchdown there, last season as a rookie in only 11 games.

Out of his frustration, Moore has requested the New York Jets to trade him. Though, the trade request came following their 27-10 win against the Green Bay Packers. The Jets’ second-round WR only played 32 snaps in that game, a season-low for him, and was not targeted once. However, pages have recently been turned as he has been targeted eight times in their past three games.

In a deleted tweet, the 22-year-old star has vented out his disappointment with the team in two consecutive tweets which were deleted later. He remarked, “If I say what I really wanna say…I’ll be the selfish guy…we winning. Grateful! Huge blessing! All I ever wanted. Butter sweet for me em but I’ll be solid. So I’ll just stay quiet. Just know I don’t understand either.”

In another tweet, Moore further clarified himself and noted that he wasn’t envious of his teammates either. The tweet read, “I support all my teammates hundred percent too. Dey know it what it is! I’m behind em like no other. Everyone rocking out needs to keep rocking out dats part of why we winning! Don’t get it confused either.”

The franchise has not officially taken any stance on Moore’s issue. There is no apparent sign of him being traded either. Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he had no problem with Moore’s tweets and asserted that he’s “fine”.
“We had a conversation,” Saleh said. “He’s fine. He’s a competitive young man. … I’ve got no problem with Elijah. He’s one of our high-character individuals. … Eventually the production part of it that he’s hoping for will come.”

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who also happens to be Moore’s close friend, has lent his support in the deleted tweet. Brown tweeted, “One of the strongest people I know. Tough times don’t last, tough people, do. We smile in the midst of adversity because we know God is doing the fighting. Love ya and see you soon,” Brown has also shared the news of Moore’s trade request with the hashtag “#FreeElijah.”
