Will Dak Prescott leave Cowboys next year? Exploring his multiple potential landing spots

Dak Prescott, one of the most talented QBs in the NFL, is entering the final year of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys. However, it was expected that he would sign a massive contract extension with the team this offseason.

Even Dak Prescott was sure about signing an extension, as he assured his fans that a long-term deal was possible before the 2024 season. However, nothing like that has happened this offseason, making the future of QB uncertain.

Will Dak Prescott be leaving the Cowboys in 2025?

NFL Media reported Tuesday that Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have decided not to make any changes to the QB’s current contract. If Dak will not sign an extension and play the 2024 season on his current contract, it means he will most likely walk out of the Cowboys in 2025.

For now, nothing will change, and he will continue as the starting QB. However, reportedly, the Cowboys are showing no signs of offering him an extension, even in the future.

Dak Prescott’s current deal includes a no-trade clause, which means he will most likely become a free agent after his contract ends. It is not only the team’s decision but it was reported that the Cowboys and the QB have a mutual understanding that there will be no adjustment to his contract entering the 2024 season.

Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in 2021, which included no-trade and no-tag clauses. If the team does not sign him to an extension, he’d still count $40.46 million against the 2025 salary cap.

There is still a year to figure out everything and the Cowboys might change their decision. But for now, there are more chances that Dak Prescott will enter the 2025 free agency and will likely find a new team soon, as there are already many potential landing spots for the QB.

Multiple potential landing spots for Dak Prescott

Considering Dak Prescott’s talents and achievements, finding a new team won’t be a big issue for him. If the QB enters free agency in 2025, these are the top teams appearing as the favorite potential landing spots for the quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks

The team signed a new backup QB Sam Howell because of Geno Smith’s uncertain future. However, both Sam and Geno are not confirmed to play for the Seahawks beyond the 2024 season. It means the team will be on the lookout for a talented QB for the 2025 season and Dak Prescott will be an ideal option.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are also grappling with quarterback issues. The team is not expected to enter into next season with a QB room consisting of Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell. It is expected they will make a trade or sign a veteran, with the trade option more likely to happen. If that’s the case, then trading Dak Prescott will be the best option for the Raiders as it will also give them a shot at contending in the AFC West.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings’ situation isn’t that stable to draft a quarterback which means they will most likely go for the trade option. Trading a free agent, Dak Prescott will make sense for them as their former QB, Kirk Cousins has already signed with the Falcons

New York Giants

The Giants also appear to be one of the top potential landing spots for Prescott for the 2025 offseason. If the team will not draft any QB then they will more likely be interested in signing Dak and beat the Dallas Cowboys with their former QB on their side.

For now, these teams are among the top potential landing spots for Dak Prescott. But a lot can change in a year, from Prescott’s performance to the Cowboys’ decision about his extension. Let’s wait and watch what the future holds for the QB.
