Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears quarterback’s future, is uncertain as he is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The team has still not made the final decision on whether they will continue with Fields or acquire a new QB.
But there have been rumors swirling that the team wants to sign Caleb Williams. Recently, CJ Stroud talked about the QB situation with the Bears and clearly stated his preference.
CJ Stroud picks his Bears QB between Justin Fields and Caleb Williams
With only a few days left until the NFL Draft, CJ Stroud was asked about his perspective on the ongoing quarterback situation and what he thinks about the Bears resigning Justin Fields.
To which CJ Stroud replied that if the team is smart, they will continue with Fields and not consider any other QB.
“They should, if they’re smart,” Stroud said in response. “But, you know.”
“It’s the Bears,” the reporter said, mocking the team’s controversial QB decisions in the past.
Stroud laughed before adding, “You said it, not me.”
It is clear that Stroud is Team Fields and not Caleb. Justin Fields is one of the best QBs in the league. Despite the injuries, he played better than expected last season and finished with a 7-10 record.
On the other hand, Caleb Williams is also one of the most talented quarterbacks and can help the team improve in the areas it lacked in the 2023 season.
Steelers emerge as potential Justin Fields destination
While several teams can opt for Justin Fields if the Bears decide to release him, for now, the Pittsburgh Steelers emerge as the best option.
The team played well in the last season but still couldn’t make it to the playoffs. The head coach of the team, Mike Tomlin, will consider signing a new QB to end their playoff draught in the upcoming season.
Initially, it appeared that Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett would be the top choices for the team, but recently reports are emerging more in favor of Justin Fields.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported the possibility of the Steelers signing Fields. He emphasized the team’s HC’s admiration for the QB.
“Pittsburgh is gonna go out and get another Quarterback. Keep in mind that Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields,” Schefter said. “A quarterback decision is something Pittsburgh will have to make soon.”
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette also talked about the possibility of the Steelers signing Fields.
“When Justin Fields was coming out… if he were on the board and the Steelers had the opportunity, they would take Justin Fields over the other player.”
However, he also emphasized the team’s commitment to Kenny Pickett for at least one more season. The possibility of Justin Fields joining the Steelers is still high.
