Ex-Bengal Carson Palmer pinks Joe Burrow over Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes as best QB in NFL: “He’s more consistent”

The NFL has so many gifted young quarterbacks right now, and there seem to be dedicated fanbases for each of them, but former quarterback Carson Palmer will go with his former team’s quarterback.

Carson played 15 years in the NFL after being the first overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent the next eight years in Cincinnati, where he was named to the Pro Bowl three times. Later, he joined the Oakland Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals before retiring in 2017.

Recently in an interview, the Bengals star shared his favorite quarterback from the present roster.

What did Carson Palmer say?

The 43-year-old himself was a talented and potential star from the beginning of his professional career. Recently, on The QB Room podcast, he shared his take on the best QB in the league, and it was the Bengal’s, Joe Burrow.

“I think Joe is the best quarterback in the league. I know Patrick is phenomenal, but I just think Joe’s more consistent,” the Heisman Trophy winner said. “He’s more consistent. He’s more accountable to run the system and the play that’s called and not feel like, ‘Well, he didn’t win last time and get open for me, so I’m gonna do it with my feet.'”

“And then before you know it, you’re sacked for a four-yard loss because you tried to make two or three guys miss. Joe is just… talk about not having a weakness,” the 2005 passing touchdowns leader continued. “Mentally strong, physically tough, accurate, can throw it far enough, fast enough, gets the ball out quick, and then he can actually do a lot with his legs.”

“He just rarely shows it. I think he’s as athletic outside the pocket and can do a lot of the same things Patrick Mahomes has done. He hasn’t done it and showed it yet. He’s played more within his system and style,” the 2005 completion percentage leader concluded. “But I think he’s the best quarterback in the league.”

To be honest, it was a tough comparison between Joe and Patrick, as the latter has won two Super Bowls and the MVP along with them. Even in last season’s AFC championship, the Chiefs’ star has shown his proficiency over the Bengals to prove his worth.

It’s hard to deny Burrow’s proficiency, but Mahomes has gone through extensive training to become the best. However, the head-to-head stat favors the Bengals’ star with a 3-1 record.

Both of them are the best, arguably the best two in their job right now, but comparing them wasn’t a smart idea, especially when one of them just won the Super Bowl two months ago. But Palmer is entitled to his opinion, and from his perspective, he was pretty logical.
