Luis Suarez once made a huge ‘Ballon d’Or’ claim on ex-teammate Neymar Jr

Neymar Jr. was always regarded as a generational talent, as he made people drop their jaws by showcasing his footballing talent on the pitch. He joined Barcelona in 2013 and the infamous trio of MSN was formed alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

The Brazilian superstar was one of the best in the world during his stint at Barcelona; however, the covetous Ballon d’Or award always avoided him thanks to outrageous performances from Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Luis Suarez was a firm believer that Neymar would win this prestigious award eventually.

When Luis Suarez made a bold Neymar Jr winning ‘Ballon d’Or’ claim

After the news of Neymar’s departure from Barcelona broke out, everyone on the team tried to convince him to stay, but he had already made up his mind. On August 3, 2017, Neymar signed a contract worth €222 million with PSG, making him the world’s most expensive signing.

Last year, in an interview, Luis Suarez shared his conversation with Neymar Jr. about why the Brazilian superstar wanted to leave Barcelona to join the French club PSG.

He asked Neymar to stay if he wanted to win the Ballon d’Or or go to Manchester City in England, as football in England is better. As we know Neymar Jr. had made his decision already.

Neymar didn’t listen to his former teammate’s advice, and his road to glory was unfortunately struck down by the many injuries he suffered throughout his career. Although he won multiple Ligue 1 titles with PSG, he failed to receive European glory after his departure from Barcelona, and wasn’t particularly successful with the Brazillian national team either.

Are Neymar Jr and Luis Suarez still friends?

As they say, friends never hold grudges, and the same applies to Luis Suarez and Neymar Jr., as they are still best friends. Neymar currently plays for Al Hilal and Luis Suarez has joined his former teammate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
