Rey Mysterio to appear on WWE SmackDown for first match since injury return

Fan favorite WWE Champion Rey Mysterio is making a comeback this week on SmackDown. This marks his first appearance after sustaining a knee injury during a faceoff against Santos Escobar. Rey’s return spices things up between the two as they come face-to-face.

Mysterio had earlier thrown the challenge at him after Escobar turned heel and betrayed his LFO teammate. With an official announcement coming from the SmackDown General Manager, fans are expecting things to heat up even more.

Rey Mysterio set for WWE SmackDown match

The two friends turned foes from the Latino World Order will meet in a SmackDown match later this week. To settle the issues between the wrestlers, some rules are set. Nick Aldis, the general manager for the SmackDown brand, stated that no associates will be allowed near the ring. They would have to sort out the issues among themselves, and he insisted on settling things ‘mano-a-mano’.

Having a history of past knee injuries, this time it was the right knee that got injured. He tore the meniscus, and it had to be operated on, taking him out of the ring for four months.

This fixture adds to an already packed year where we see the return of the Rock. He will likely take on Cody Rhodes after their verbal altercation during the WrestleMania media event started an ongoing feud.

Rey Mysterio sets sight on Santon Escobar

Earlier on Instagram, Rey Mysterio warned Escobar that there would be a lot of ‘payback waiting for him’ when they met in the ring. He goes on to say that Escobar’s betrayal will not be forgotten.

The knee injury that he sustained also received a heads-up. Rey Mysterio got injured during the Carlito versus Bobby Lashley match when Escobar attacked Mysterio as he tried to save his teammate from getting hit by Lashley’s associates. During the heated face-off, Mysterio’s knee hit the ring steps, causing the injury.

Escobar is also eager to meet his former teammate. He even poked fun at Mysterio by posting an image of them together with the caption ‘Dead King, Long Live the Emperor’. It just adds fuel to the fire that is already building up ahead of their face-off.

Fans cannot wait for the event to start. Are you excited about Rey Mysterio facing Escobar? Let us know in the comments.
