The boxing world is poised for a historic rematch as the retired former world champion Manny Pacquiao has made an announcement that has created a significant buzz among boxing fans.
Pacquiao has decided to face the legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather again in the boxing ring, eight years after losing the bout by unanimous decision. He was recently challenged by Conor McGregor in the ‘Day of Reckoning’ event, but that possibility now seems distant.
Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather
Manny Pacuiao and Floyd Mayweather, both carry a very big legacy. Floyd Mayweather remained undefeated(50-0) throughout his professional career whereas Pacquiao retired with 8 losses(62-8-2) under his name. Pacquiao took retirement in 2021 to fight presidential elections in the Philippines but ended up as a distant 3rd. Now after 2 years he is thinking of coming back to boxing for one more fight against Floyd Mayweather.
They fought each other in 2015 which was billed as ‘Fight of the Century’. Pacquiao was at RIZIN 45 in Japan when he announced the mega fight. Pacquiao said, “Thank you so much for inviting me here again. I’m sorry for the last time that we promised we were going to fight this year, but like Sakakibara explained, this year I will see you here in Japan again with a big fight against …”
He stopped and looked towards Rizin chief executive Nobuyuki Sakakibara, who said, “Floyd Mayweather!” Pacquiao continued, “Floyd Mayweather, yeah, I thought you didn’t want me to say that. But I’m excited for that. Thank you for always supporting Rizin, and thank you Sakakibara-san.”
After the announcement of the fight, boxing fans have reacted wildly, and it is evident that it is going to be the ‘fight of the decade.’ The fight is scheduled for 2024; however, no further details were announced.
Conor McGregor challenged Manny Pacquiao
Conor Mcrgregor, who is currently out of action post his leg injury, is now looking desperate to make his comeback in combat sports. He says that his comeback is being delayed and if he doesn’t get a call from UFC soon he is ready to make his comeback in the boxing ring.
In the ‘Day of Reckoning’ event, McGregor challenged former World Champion Manny Pacquiao while talking to Al-Sheikh. McGregor said, “I love Manny. Tell Manny to grow a set of b*lls to fight together at a higher weight.”
However, it looks like McGregor will have to wait for his turn to feature against Manny because ‘Pacman’ has announced his fight with Mayweather. After Manny’s indirect rejection of Conor’s challenge, it looks like Conor will feature in the octagon before the ring.
