“You have got to be kidding me” Stephen A. Smith fires back at critiques over his Rihanna-Beyonce remark being blown out of proportion

The NFL is more than just Football, especially when teams compete in the Super Bowl. The “Half-Time” show of the Super Bowl is no less than any grand concert- the biggest of the celebrities perform in the event giving fans the best entertainment possible.

Over the years, stars like Beyonce, Bruno Mars, the Weeknd, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and many other legends have performed in the grand event. This season Rihanna will perform in the event, and Stephen A. Smith has commented about her that fans did not appreciate.

On the “Sherri” show, Smith was talking about the upcoming Super Bowl and his excitement for the “Half-Time” show; he then went on to say, “Ladies and gentlemen, she’s a lot of things. She’s spectacular, actually. And congratulations on your new momma-hood. There’s one thing she’s not: she ain’t Beyoncé.”

This apparently broke the internet as fans were shocked to hear such a statement from a person like Smith. Many thought Smith had some personal issues with the artist.

However, Stephen A. Smith came out to explain what he actually meant and blasted his critiques with a statement that left everyone in shock.

What did Stephen A. Smith say?

Firstly, Smith could not believe that fans made a controversy out of his statement. While talking about Rihanna, he did not intend to bash her.

Rather, he just pointed out that Beyonce is his favorite artist. He was also surprised that out “of the stuff going on in the world,” picking his favorite artist is making headlines in “America,” and so he went on to say in the First Take

“It’s ridiculous! This is the controversy? With all of the stuff going on in the world, I’m being accused of Black-on-Black crime because I happen to like one artist more than the other. I mean, you got to be kidding me! Handcuff me now! Put it behind my damn back! Y’all got to be kidding me!”

“I can’t compliment a Black female comedian now, right? If I sit up there and say I like Leslie Jones better than somebody else, it’s a problem? THAT IS MAKING NEWS! WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA? That is making news! That I have a favorite artist! It’s unbelievable!” he added.

With his statement, Smith backfired on his critiques. Yet, even while not having any issues with Rihanna, Stephen apologized to the artist in his podcast.
