Andy Ruiz Jr. set to return on Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov card after three bouts in five years

Andy Ruiz Jr. is eager to reignite his career after a relatively quiet period of three fights in five years since claiming the world heavyweight title.

On August 3, “The Destroyer” is scheduled to return to action when Terence Crawford fights Israil Madrimov for the WBA super welterweight championship. Recently, Andy Ruiz shared a post on his X account with an eye emoji, suggesting the news circulating about his return to the boxing scene may indeed be true.

Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov’s official announcement is set to be announced on Wednesday as Crawford sets his sights on another world title in a higher weight class. Last week, there was a report by WBN stating that the WBO might consider including its championship in the mix should Sebastian Fundora be stripped of his title this month.

Although an opponent for Ruiz has not been announced yet, it is likely that the selection process will follow a similar pattern as seen with Arreola and Ortiz, who were chosen despite their long layoffs. Ruiz needs to remain active to maintain his position and have a chance at a world title. Regardless of his next opponent, if he emerges victorious, he will need to return to the ring within six months.

Is Andy Ruiz Jr. still a world heavyweight champion?

Andy Ruiz managed to secure a monumental victory in the heavyweight division by claiming Anthony Joshua’s three championship belts in 2019. However, his triumph was short-lived, as he ultimately surrendered the titles back to his British adversary just six months later. Ruiz had only competed in one fight since then, but he made a renewed commitment to his training in the hopes of earning another opportunity to compete for the championship titles.

Following his two-fight series with Joshua, Ruiz has only competed twice, securing victories against Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz. Andy Ruiz Jr. expressed his determination to regain the heavyweight championship title and to make sure he does everything right to maintain his status as the champion. He has been involved in rumored clashes with Deontay Wilder, but they have yet to come to fruition.

Regardless of whether or not he will secure another championship title, boxing fans are eagerly anticipating the return of 34-year-old Andy Ruiz Jr. to the ring this August.
