“We don’t need you”: Chavo Guerrero frustrated at WWE legend Rey Mysterio’s Eddie Guerrero homage

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero shared a close friendship that spanned their time in WCW and WWE, and they were frequently associated with each other. Following Eddie‘s untimely death in 2005, Rey has made various efforts to pay homage to his late friend. This includes incorporating Eddie’s signature move, the frog splash, into his own matches. However, Chavo Guerrero, who is Eddie’s nephew, recently teased Rey in a lighthearted manner over his consistent tributes to Eddie.

During a virtual signing session with Captain’s Corner, Guerrero reflected on his past on-screen rivalry with Mysterio in 2007. He then went on to mention Rey’s ongoing tributes to Eddie, such as using the “Lie, Cheat, Steal” theme song and arriving in a lowrider at WWE WrestleMania 39. In a nod to his heel persona, Guerrero remarked that his family was growing weary of Rey relying on their name.

“I gotta tell you this, I just don’t understand why Rey Mysterio still has to — look, we all love Eddie (Guerrero). But we’re not going out with his gimmick and our gimmick, it was Los Guerreros’ gimmick and come out with the Los Guerreros, ‘We Lie, We Cheat, We Steal’ and everybody’s like, oh yeah, keeping Eddie’s memory alive.”

He went on to express his exhaustion with people taking advantage of his family’s name, stating that he didn’t mean to sound bitter, but was simply speaking the truth. He emphasized that his family had worked tirelessly to build their reputation and didn’t appreciate others using it to further their own agendas.

“So Rey Mysterio, I’m sorry that no one knows who Rey Mysterio Sr. is, Rey Mysterio Jr. No one knows who he is and I’m sorry that you have to latch on to the Guerrero family and we’re just kind of tired of it so. Thank you for keeping Eddie’s name alive, thank you for keeping the Guerrero name alive but we don’t need you, we’re good, you know what I’m saying?”

In response to being asked about the possibility of facing Mysterio at WWE WrestleMania 40, Guerrero adopted a heel persona and quipped, “I don’t think Rey could hold a candle to me right now, to be honest.”

Both Rey and Dominik Mysterio have made allusions to Eddie Guerrero in recent WWE TV appearances. During the March 27 episode of WWE Raw, Dominik expressed his desire for Eddie to be his biological father. Further details are yet to be revealed.
