“I don’t care”: Boxing icon Canelo Alvarez sheds light on rejecting David Benavidez to accept bout vs Jermell Charlo

Canelo Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, has opted to select Jermell Charlo as his next challenger to defend his titles. There were many names floated as potential opponents for the Mexican, so some fans were disappointed with his announcement.

In a recent statement, Alvarez disclosed his rationale for picking Jermell over his twin brother and also David Benavidez, as his opponent for the upcoming bout.

Canelo Alvarez on declining bout vs David Benavidez

Alvarez recently disclosed the reasons behind his decision and shared his thoughts on why he had never shown any inclination towards a fight with Benavidez.

“Talks too much. That’s not the way to make a fight. That way I don’t pay attention. I do my things and just watch. Watch my career and watch his career. For me, I don’t pay attention to that thing. I’ve done a lot of things in boxing,” Alvarez said.

Benavidez, who has triumphed in all 27 of his professional fights, secured the vacant WBC super middleweight title last year with a third-round TKO victory over David Lemieux. Despite his impressive achievements, El Bandera Roja expressed his strong desire to take on Alvarez for his next ring challenge.

Following his triumph over Caleb Plant, David expressed his determination to establish his worth as a boxer and highlighted Saul as the ideal opportunity to accomplish this. Benavidez eagerly emphasized his desire to prove himself by facing Alvarez in the ring.
